RESNET Addenda Roundup

Codewatcher addenda RESNET

RESNET  recently had a number of addenda approved.

Here is a breakdown of all the new updates:

• Addendum F, Normative Appendix A – This provides minimum insulation installation requirements and grading criteria for installed insulation.

• Addendum L, Duct Leakage to the Outdoor Test Exception – This exception applies where the criteria are met for ducts located within conditioned space.

• Addendum N, Normative Appendix B – The inspection procedures for minimum rated features have been updated and expanded to address dwelling units in multi-unit buildings.

• Addendum 39, Mechanical Ventilation Airflow and Fan Wattage – This provides interim solutions for rating homes with mechanical ventilation systems where ventilation airflows cannot be measured and for when ventilation fan wattages cannot be determined.

The four addenda are in effect as of mid-February 2019. There is now a Transition Period during which they may be used, but are not required to be used. The Transition Period End Date is July 1, 2019. Ratings on homes that have building permits issued after the end date must comply with the addenda.

There is also a new ANSI standard being developed by RESNET and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA). Titled RESNET/ACCA ANSI Candidate Standard 310 “Standard for Grading the Installation of HVAC Systems”, it aims to create criteria for the grading of HVAC installation and includes a non-invasive system test for HVAC systems. This new standard rewards high-quality HVAC design and installation with HERS points.

posted online here. A 30-day preview is happening now, and then a 60-day comment period will commence
around the end of April.
