California Building Code Changes

Here’s a rundown of important California building code changes.

Changes in the 2016 California building codes that are effective January 1, 2017, provide enhanced clarity and consistency in application. The basis for the majority of these changes resulted from California amendments to the 2015 model building codes. The most significant changes are listed in the Summary of 2016 California Building Code Changes, which has been compiled by the Division of the State Architect.

Among the changes to the California Building Code include the adoption of the 2015 International Existing Building Code, amendments affecting maximum water flow rates for faucets and showerheads, and concrete standards were rewritten for clarity.

More information on the building code is available on DSA’s Title 24 News page and on the California Building Standards Commission website.
